MALCOLM BOARD OF EDUCATION • 2026

STUDENTS
FIRST.

BRIAN BLAIR

Strong Schools. Responsible Leadership. A Stronger Future for Malcolm.

I'm running for the Malcolm Board of Education because the decisions we make today will shape opportunities for our students and the future of our community for years to come.

Brian Blair, candidate for Malcolm Board of Education

A SIMPLE STANDARD

Every decision should begin with one question.

“What's best for our students?”

I believe students should be at the center of the decisions that shape Malcolm Public Schools. That means supporting academic excellence, being responsible with taxpayer dollars, giving our teachers and staff the tools they need, communicating openly with our community, and planning thoughtfully for Malcolm's future.

MEET BRIAN

Invested in Malcolm. Invested in its future.

My family and I have called the Malcolm community home for the past 12 years. My wife, Alison, grew up here and moved back with me 12 years ago so we could raise our family in this community.

Our daughter, Alli, is a senior at Malcolm. Our sons, Brooks and Deacan, are in fourth and third grades. Having children at different stages of the school system gives me a broad perspective on the experiences, opportunities and challenges facing Malcolm students and families.

We thoroughly enjoy the neighborhood and the community around us. Our home is often a gathering place for kids, which gives me an everyday view into what young people enjoy about Malcolm, what matters to them and what they would like to see for their school and community.

MY PRIORITIES

Students First isn't just a slogan.

It's the standard I believe should guide major decisions made by the Malcolm Board of Education.

01

Academic Excellence

Maintain high academic expectations and ensure students and educators have the resources needed to succeed. Malcolm graduates should be prepared for whatever path comes next—college, technical education, skilled trades, agriculture, military service or the workforce.

02

Fiscal Responsibility

Every dollar entrusted to the district matters. We can invest in students, teachers and facilities while respecting taxpayers. Fiscal responsibility isn't simply spending less—it's spending wisely and protecting the district's long-term financial strength.

03

Supporting Teachers & Staff

Great schools depend on great people. Malcolm should be a place where talented teachers and staff want to work, have the tools they need to succeed and know their contributions are valued.

04

Transparency & Communication

Strong schools require trust. Parents and community members should have opportunities to be heard and should understand the reasoning behind important decisions affecting their school.

05

Preparing Malcolm for the Future

Growth brings opportunity, but it also requires planning. Enrollment, housing, infrastructure, facilities, staffing and finances are interconnected. The school district and community need to grow thoughtfully and in conjunction with one another.

WHY I'M RUNNING

Malcolm is worth investing in, protecting and continually improving.

I'm not running because I believe everything at Malcolm needs to change. I'm running because I care deeply about where Malcolm is headed.

With a senior preparing to graduate and two younger children with many years ahead of them in the district, I see Malcolm from several perspectives. The decisions made today will directly affect my family and hundreds of other Malcolm families.

I believe a strong board should ask questions, consider different perspectives, evaluate the facts and make decisions based on what's best for students and the long-term health of the district.

That's the kind of board member I want to be.

Malcolm Public Schools and Malcolm community

OUR COMMUNITY • OUR SCHOOL • OUR FUTURE

Growth should make Malcolm better—not simply bigger.

The future of Malcolm Public Schools and the future of the surrounding community are directly connected.

Development affects enrollment. Enrollment affects staffing, facilities, transportation and finances. Those decisions affect students and taxpayers.

I want Malcolm to grow thoughtfully while preserving the close-knit character that makes families want to live here in the first place.
